February 20, 2015: Nearly 2,000 inmates participated in an uprising at a private prison run by Management and Training Corporation. The facility, which lies approximately 40 miles from the US-Mexico border was used primarily to house immigrants due for deportation.
July 2, 2014: Dozens of prisoners were transferred from the Van Zandt County Jail after they learned to pick the locks of their cells and, protecting their identity with sheets, move freely through the cell block.
April 2, 2014: One Correctional Officer was standing near a doorway when he was attacked by multiple inmates. The inmates reportedly had two homemade weapons which were used to stab the officer multiple times. Another officer was stabbed while trying to respond to the incident.
March 17, 2014: Detainees at the Joe Corley Detention Center launch hunger strike in solidarity with detainees on strike in Tacoma, Washington. Outside supporters stage two solidarity actions, one at the facility, and the other in downtown Houston.
