October 16-29, 2016: Immigrant detainees re-launch their hunger strike (which had ended in July) in protest of their placement in maximum security prisons, indefinite detention of immigrants and a variety of other grievances. The outside group End Immigration Detention
October 17-30, 2016: More than a hundred prisoners stage a two week hunger strike in protest of prison conditions. "Prisoners United of Silicon Valley" a group well-connected with local civil rights organizers leads the strike, coordinating with other California prisons and jails.
October 1, 2016: According to the Free Alabama Movement, Holman guards quit en masse. One guard is quoted as saying, "We’re tired of them playing games with y’all and our lives. It doesn’t make any sense. You be safe Lil Brother."
