Mass Escape at Logan Hall, New Jersey

October 29, 2012: When Hurricane Sandy hit the eastern seaboard, power failed at Logan Hall, a halfway house operated by the private corporation Community Education Centers, causing the locking mechanisms on the cells to fail. Dozens of male prisoners left their cells and destroyed prison property. 15 prisoners escaped in one of the largest mass escapes in recent New Jersey history.

Uprising at Whatcom County Jail, Washington

October 24, 2012: Six inmates at Whatcom County Jail tore metal pieces off the ventilation system and used them to cause $15,000 in damage to their cell block. After one hour, emergency response teams regained control. One of the rioters was treated for a leg injury in the hospital. According to sheriff deputies, the main complaint was a lack of time outside of cells.
