March 22, 2019: One staff member was stabbed and kicked by two inmates after a door was mistakenly opened.
April 14, 2018: At least 36 prisoners refused to return to their cells, prompting guards to call in the prison riot response team. Prisoners returned to their cells before the response teams arrived. At this point, the reason for the protest is unknown.
March 2, 2017: Almost exactly two years after a major uprising at Tecumseh, approximately 40 prisoners refused orders to return to their cells. Prison staff left the day room of the housing unit and locked the doors, preventing the prisoners from moving to other units. During the uprising, prisoners set fires and destroyed prison infrastructure. Two prisoners were murdered by other prisoners during the uprising.
September 8, 2016: While the facility is on lockdown to prevent strike participation, a prisoner assaults three staff members.
May 10, 2015: Prisoners of all races take control of multiple housing units in the prison (including staff offices), fight off guards together, set fires, destroy walls and other infrastructure. They use office phones to call their mothers and the media and chant “Hands up! Don’t shoot!”—echoing the anti-police protests in Ferguson, Missouri.
