Gateway to Independence Juvenile Center, Nashville, Tennessee

Two teachers were injured after an altercation at Gateway to Independence, formerly known as Woodland Hills Youth Detention Center. The altercation led to one juvenile escaping the facility.
The events began at 11:30am when a 16 year old got into a physical altercation with one teacher, ripping his shirt. A second teacher joined in the altercation and a 17 year old youth prisoner came to the other juveniles aid, injuring the second teacher.
During the incident the 17 year old managed to escape out of one of the doors of the facility. He was apprehended within hours.
Nashville Police stated that a “riot” was reported to dispatch at around 11:50 a.m. Initial reports also included offenders taking over classrooms.
One teacher was hospitalized with facial lacerations as a result of the event.
