Approximately a dozen prisoners swarmed staff in the kitchen area and began assaulting them at about 11:45 a.m. Some prisoners used kitchen implements as weapons. A similar incident occurred simultaneously on the floor above the first attack. It appeared the group attacks had been planned in advance, said an official with the state Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association.
Twelve staff members were injured in the incident.
