Food Strike at California Men’s Colony

Food Strike at California Men’s Colony

California Men’s Colony, San Luis Obispo, California
January 24 – 26, 2011.

One thousand prisoners refuse meals in a hunger strike in protest of austerity measures at the prison, including cuts to programming and routine lockdowns associated with under-staffing.

The strike was also in protest of stricter enforcement of rules by a new captain.

“They put a lot of thought into this — (being) this organized and not being disruptive” Patrick Campbell, chapter president of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association, told The Tribune.
