Hunger Strike at Alfred D. Hughes Unit, Texas

Alfred D. Hughes Unit, Gatesville, Texas September 22 – October 1, 2016 One trans woman endures a hunger strike for more than a week to demand precedent-setting access to bras for protection, modesty during strip searches, and support during hormone therapy. Guards make threats and one guard suggests that the trans prisoner castrate herself. The prisoner, Vanessa Gibson, wins access to bras and files a law-suit against TDCJ.
