Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility, Las Cruces, New Mexico

According to prison authorities, five prisoners attacked two guards during a nurse visit at Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility. The attack continued for almost 30 seconds until another guard fired “less lethal shotgun and pepper ball grenades.”
The two guards received “severe, but non-life-threatening injuries” from the attack, and were taken to a hospital in El Paso. After the attack, the prison was put on lockdown..
On August 1, video footage of the attack was released to the media which can be seen below.
Seven prisoners were charged in connection with the attack. Of those, two were charged with attempted murder and three others with aggravated assault of a peace officer.
