According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement Spokesperson Bryan Cox, seven immigrant detainees at the River Correctional Facility were engaged in a hunger strike as of July 11, 2019. The hunger strike began on July 9, 2019.

ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment as to whether the hunger strike was ongoing or when it ended.

The hunger strike took place at the same time as another hunger strike by ICE detainees at Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.

Detainees at the River Correctional Facility also engaged in a hunger strike in late March, 2019. Their complaints included being denied bond and unfairness at immigration and asylum hearings.
