Three correctional officers were treated for injuries after being attacked by several inmates at Elmira Correctional Facility. The incident started after one inmate reportedly left a classroom without permission. A correctional officer confronted the inmate who responded by spitting on the officer and punching him in the face. The CO used OC spray in an unsuccessful attempt to restrain the inmate before a second correctional officer arrived and put the inmate in restraints.

While this incident occurred a second inmate reportedly became belligerent in the classroom and was ordered against a wall. The inmate refused restraints and elbowed an officer in the chest multiple times. A third inmate then struck an officer in the face while a fourth charged at a correctional officer and was sprayed with OC spray before being restrained.

Three officers were treated for injuries at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Two of the officers were treated for bruises and abrasions while one was treated for exposure to blood.

Four additional officers reportedly received minor injuries and stayed on duty, according to the correctional officers union.
