Protest at Toronto South Detention Centre

Protest at Toronto South Detention Centre

Toronto South Detention Centre, Etobicoke, Ontario
June 9, 2016

As many as 160 prisoners at the Toronto South Detention Centre refused to return to their cells in protest of inhuman conditions caused, in part, by frequent lockdowns. Prisoner sat in the prison yard during the protest.

This protest follows a series of hunger strikes that occurred at the jail in 2015, also in protest of frequent lockdowns and problems with prison infrastructure at the brand-new, $1 billion jail.
