Two men held in the Anna M. Kross Center, the mental health facility at Rikers Island, attacked 6 guards before being subdued with pepper spray. According to a representative for the guard’s union, the prisoners used a telephone and garbage cans as weapons. One officer had to receive 19 stitches in his face as a result of the attack. Other officers had to be treated for a bruised jaw, a head wound, and exposure to the pepper spray.
