Regina Provincial Correctional Center, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
March 2 – 3, 2015
Prisoners in the high security unit launch a hunger strike to demand access to outdoors exercise, freedom to practice Indigenous religious ceremonies and other demands.
Forrest Pelletier, a prisoner at Regina involved in the strike, spoke with Global News, “There’s no gym. There’s a room with a window that opens and they say that’s our exercise. We just want outside exercise at least once a week or else given some type of exercise equipment.”
The strike ends 24 hours later following negotiations with prison administrators.
