June 8, 2017: At least 13 prisoners took part in an uprising, causing at estimated $100,000 in damage to the facility. Following the uprising, 4 prisoners were transferred to other facilities and one prisoner and one guard were treated for minor injuries.

Hunger Strike at Regina Provincial Correctional Centre, Saskatchewan, Canada

March 2, 2016 – (end date unknown): Sixteen prisoners in the prison’s high security unit 2D1 launched a hunger strike in protest of extended periods of lockdown. One of the prisoners, Forrest Pelletier, spoke to the CBC, explaining that as pre-trial detainees, the prisoners deserve less restrictive conditions of confinement. “We’re tired of being locked up 21 hours a day. You know it’s like we’re in a super-max correctional facility, and it’s like we’re guilty until proven innocent. You know a lot of us never had our day in court.”

Uprising at Regina Provincial Correctional Center, Saskatchewan, Canada

February 22, 2016: A group of prisoners participate in an uprising causing an estimated $55,000 in damage in order to demand that other members of their organization be put on the same range. The prisoners signed a note demanding transfer of other members of the Saskatchewan Warriors. According to the Regina Leader-Post: “a group of inmates on Tiers 1 and 2 of Unit 2 were exercising when they simultaneously began breaking off sprinkler heads and smashing windows on the range. During the incident, the men armed themselves with brooms, mops, pails and wheels broken off carts.”

Hunger Strike at Regina Correctional Centre, Saskatchewan, Canada

January 25, 2016: Regina Correctional Centre prisoners staged at least three meal refusals since November of last year. This comes in response to the privatization of food service last year, which prisoners say has degraded the quality of the food.

Food Strike at Regina Provincial Correctional Centre, Saskatchewan

January 7, 2016: Between 100 and 150 prisoners at Regina Provincial Correctional Centre in Saskatchewan refused meals for 24 hours to protest the quality of food they were being served by a private company called Compass Group of Canada.

Hunger Strike at Regina Provincial Correctional Centre, Saskatchewan, Canada

March 25, 2015: Following another hunger strike earlier in the month, approximately 12 prisoners launch a second hunger strike to express issues with the fulfillment of their previous demands for religious freedom, access to exercise and other issues. The hunger strike lasts one day and is called off when negotiations with the administration begin again.

Hunger Strike at Regina Provincial Correctional Centre, Saskatchewan, Canada

March 2 – 3, 2015: At least 15 prisoners in the high security unit launch a hunger strike to demand access to outdoors exercise, freedom to practice Indigenous religious ceremonies and other demands. Forrest Pelletier, a prisoner at Regina involved in the strike, spoke with Global News, “There’s no gym. There’s a room with a window that opens and they say that’s our exercise. We just want outside exercise at least once a week or else given some type of exercise equipment.”
