North Kern State Prison, Delano, California
September 13, 2019
After a guard found a prisoner with a contraband cellphone, the prisoner attacked the guard and seven others joined in. The prisoners punched and kicked the guards, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Guards responded to the incident using pepper spray and firing a less-lethal “sponge round” from a 40 mm launcher, according to a CDCR spokesman.
The guard was transferred to the hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The prison was placed on lock-down following the incident.
