Detainees at the military prison operated by the United States government launched a hunger strike that lasted months and peaked in July, 2013 with 106 of the 166 detainees at the facility participating. It is unclear when the hunger strike ended, because in December, 2013, the U.S. military announced that it would no longer release information on hunger strikes at the prison to media, stating that “The release of this information serves no operational purpose…”

As of December 2, 2011 when information was last available, there were 15 detainees on hunger strike.
